Everyone wants to have a safe and happy Halloween holiday for themselves, their friends and their children. Using common sense and safety measures can help you make the most of your Halloween and make it as enjoyable and safe for your kids.
It’s that time again, when children enjoy costumes and roaming the neighborhoods in search of their favorite candy. Halloween is a fun time for kids, but it is also an important time to be extra careful for possible safety hazards so that your children have a fun and safe Halloween. Here are some tips and information we can do to help make Halloween a safer holiday for everyone!
Trick-or-Treating safety
Before children start out on their “trick or treating” parents should always make sure that a trusted adult or an older responsible youth will be supervising the children at all times.
Plan and discuss the area and direction the children will be following beforehand. Make sure to instruct your kids to only follow familiar and safe areas.
Make sure they know to stay in populated places and don’t go off the beaten track.
Stay in well lighted areas. Halloween is not the time to be traveling to places unknown, no matter how safe it looks, esp. at night. Tell your children only to stop at homes that are well lit and never ever enter a stranger’s home! Stop only at familiar houses in your own neighborhood unless they are accompanied by an adult.
Make sure your child carries a flashlight and a mobile phone for quick communication. A glow stick or reflective tape on their costumes to make them more visible to cars, other people and always use the sidewalk.
Make sure the person in charge and your children know what time to start heading back home, establish a time to come home. Remind your children not to eat any candies until they get home. This way it gives you a chance to investigate the candy and make sure of no tampering being done. Don’t forget to tell your kids to have a great time too, but to use common sense.
