What Are South Korea’s Famous Tourist Attractions and Activities? »

Gyeongju

Korea’s ancient capital, Gyeongju, is the country’s big must-see, and rates as one of the ten most important ancient cultural cities in the world. In among the shops and markets in the modern-day city you’ll find abundant relics of its two-thousand-year history, including colossal fifth-century tombs and burial mounds, a seventh-century stone observatory, and the royal pleasure gardens of Anapji, which were designed in 674 AD. Other quarters of Gyeongju are rich with elegant pagodas and historic wooden Buddhist temples, and numerous trails take you to the slopes of the sacred mountain, Nam-san, which dominates the south of the city.

Valentine’s Day in Japan and Korea »

14th February is a day associated with doe-eyed couples, romance and a booming business for florists. But the origins of Valentine’s Day is rather tragic – one legend has it that it is dedicated to a priest who defied the Roman law that outlawed marriage for young men as the Emperor Claudius II thought that single men where better soldiers than married ones. But when it was discovered that he married young couples in secret, the priest Valentine was put to death.

Here are a couple of East Asian takes on Valentine’s Day for Japan and Korea.

Mink Blankets – 5 Things You Don’t Know About These Luxurious Blankets »

Mink blankets are not made from the fur of the mink animal. The mink that is used for blankets and other items is an acrylic fabric, totally man made. The idea of calling the product mink is the same as the thinking behind the fleece blanket, which has little to do with a sheep or any other animal for that matter. The words are marketing terms to conjuror up vivid images in our minds of comfort, warmth and luxury. Even so, mink blankets are noted for being extremely soft, warm and dense.

Genuine Korean mink blankets are made in South Korea, the name is not another marketing ploy. The idea and production of the mink fabric was started in China and Korea and the name has stuck. The fabric is acrylic, man-made and has no animal products in it.

Effective Method of Negotiation »

What is Negotiation?

Negotiation is the interactive social process in which people engage, when they aim to reach an agreement with another party or parties on behalf of themselves.

Negotiation is primarily a common mean of securing one’s expectations from others. It is a form of communication designed to reach an agreement when two or more parties have certain interests that are shared and certain others that are opposed.

In North Korea – The Glorious Pyongyang Church »

North Korea’s church history

As we continue our study of the Body of Christ in North Korea, we simply must stop and talk about the 1907 Pyongyang Revival. The Christian Koreans have a glorious history and a glorious future. Though we cannot understand some of the goings-on in the North today, we are confident that the situation is only temporary. God HEARS and ANSWERS the cries of his people! I quote below from Young-Hoon Lee’s Korean Pentecost: The Great Revival of 1907.

Korea

The origin of the 1907 Pyongyang revival could be traced to a prayer meeting of Methodist missionaries at Wonsan in 1903, and attributable to Dr. R.A. Hardie, a medical missionary working in the Kangwon province. Although Dr. Hardie worked arduously in his ministry, he was able to achieve very little. Frustrated, he entered into a period of self-reflection. He was strongly convicted as his prejudices, sins and efforts of self-reliance were revealed to him.

South Korea Needs Fuel Change »

As South Korea’s population grows, it is becoming more and more essential for governmental involvement in industry to help stave the overwhelming effects of pollution on the nation’s air quality. In the late 1990s, South Korea’s environment was put into jeopardy by efforts of its industry to boost economic growth at all costs. Industry shifted into high gear without being mindful of the enormous amounts of particulates and carbon emissions released into the air as a result. Recent governmental controls have helped clean up efforts, and carbon and sulfur dioxide emissions by industry have been largely lessened. Unfortunately for South Korea, with economic growth and prosperity, millions more automobiles have become accessible by consumers, and their emissions are now surpassing the environmental effects rendered by industry a decade earlier.

Date in Asia – Korea »

Korea is a great place to date in Asia. There are many possibilities out there for western guys to find a good partner in the “Land of Morning Calm.” While Korea might be known as the “Land of Morning Calm”, it says nothing of the night time in cities like Seoul and Busan which are anything but calm. Nightlife in Korea is all about going out, drinking and having a good time; and, it is the perfect way to meet a girl.

When I first came to Seoul two years ago, I had a preconception that Korea would be very traditional and meeting Korean girls would be a bit of a problem. While sometimes that is the case, there are many more times the opportunity to find a date. Korean women are for the most part very open to meeting a western guy. They have been watching American TV their whole lives, and some have developed preference and curiosity for western males.
