Osullivan’s travel blog entry: “On the train yesterday, we all woke up by like 6am, but the train wasn’t getting in until 8:45. The scenery from the train was beautiful – mountains, valleys, farms, villages, rice paddies. When we got to Xi’an, we had to walk through the train station and to the hotel. People here seem destitute, and the train station was definitely a shady place. We had breakfast at the Grand Soluxe International Hotel, showered, and headed out with our new tour guide, Michelle. Xi’an is the oldest city in China. Apparently China is kind of shaped like a rooster (I never realized til now), and Xi’an is located where its “heart” would be. By the way, things are SO CHEAP here. You can walk into a store and buy a bottle of water for the equivalent of about 12 cents. You can get t-shirts for less than . Dinner can cost you less than a dollar if you find the right place. It’s really awesome! Anyway, our first stop was the Terracotta Warriors Museum. It was really cool. There are three pits of these soldiers made out of terracotta that were commissioned by the first Chinese Emperor and buried with him and his tomb to protect him in the afterlife. What has been excavated at this point represents only a small portion of the eight thousand soldiers buried in front of the tomb nearly 2500 …
