Silver Hill, Jamaica Holds Rain Record

Author by : Lance Winslow

Every time is rains we wonder will it ever stop and it always does and we see that rainbow in the sky. Sometimes there is some flooding before the rain stops too. Silver Hill, Jamaica holds the modern era record for the most rainfall at one time. They had some 96 and a half inches in 4-days. The Caribbean seems to get flooding every year during Hurricane Season.

During the 2006 Atlantic Hurricane Season the Grand Cayman Islands had 28 inches of rain in the first named storm of the season and that happened in only 12-hours with Tropical Storm Alberto, whose remnants caused the worst flooding in 2006 in South Carolina and again in the North Eastern US. Although this is really nothing compared to the 28 inches in Grand Cayman in 12-hours or the 96 inches in Jamaica, which set the record. The all time record in the United States of America is very high at 42 inches in 24-hours, but still nothing compared to the 96 inches.

The Philippines is also a huge place for flooding and their records are at 73.6 inches in 24-hours. Each year during Typhoon Season the Philippines has severe flooding, landslides and Torrential Rains. They also can experience many severe flooding and rains at other times of the year. So, next time it is raining cats and dogs be thankful that you are not setting any records where you are. Consider this in 2006.
